I am setting up a software development business in Mumbai and I was looking if I can rent a residential apartment and use it for my office purpose anywhere in Lower Parel area. Please let me know.

No, not at all. It is illegal.

You may put your self, as well as your landlord into problem.

However, as Advocate or as CA, you can use part of your residence as your office.

you can do provided this was informed to the owner of the house. by entering into an agreement explicitly disclosing that you are going to use it for office purpose. secondly the association (if any) of the apartment should have no objection for running an office. and lastly you should check from the local body that as per their rule the area where you are going to have the business is not restricted only for residential use. cheeeeeku at : www.goldeneggsforlife.com

yes, you can as per the law......there are ppl in mumbai who helds tution classes (as one profession), beauty parlour from house etc....all in residntial areas........one can develop any business from anywhere.........
